Why LED/SSL Lighting?

Why incorporate energy efficient technology into your operations? For one, it is the same reason you should think about protecting yourself from rising energy costs – because energy rates are rising! And beyond that, if you use less, you spend less no matter what the rate. Its like an automatic sale – your P&L goes up without a single more customer. Imagine turning on your lights when you get to work and walking around with a bucket catching $100’s falling out of your current light fixtures. That is what you will be doing by incorporating LED lighting into your facilities.

eco-friendlyECO FRIENDLY

No mercury. The mercury in one fluorescent tube when land filled is enough to poison nearly 1,000 gallons of water. Mercury is the element linked to causing autism in 1 in 150 children in the US.
  • The amount of waste created by LED’s is far less than lighting that has a shorter life. Therefore it reduces the impact on landfills and waste. Additionally, a majority of the parts of LED are recyclable.
  • Reduces carbon emissions. For every kWh of electricity saved, 1.68 tons of CO2 is kept from being emitted into the atmosphere. Worldwide governments are pushing the Cap and Trade system for carbon emissions which will put a limit on the amount of CO2 a company is permitted to emit. It is much less expensive to be ahead of the curve than behind it.
  • Market your company as energy efficient. CLGL is Energy Star certified.

LONG LASTING

LED’s last on average between 50,000 and 100,000 hours. That is between 5.5 and 11 years if left burning continuously. Traditional lighting claims anywhere between 10,000 and 25,000 hours at best.

EFFICIENT

  • LED’s use up to 70% less electricity than traditional lighting, a staggering figure when you realize that up to 50% of energy bill comes from burning lights.
  • CLGL payback period average is 2 – 3 years.
  • LED’s create 95% light and 5% heat versus traditional lighting that produces 95% heat and 5% light. Let’s break that down to a real life scenario. Every watt saved on lighting will equate to 4 watts of cooling power, so in the summertime when your A/C is running full blast, LED’s are not working against all the work your A/C is doing. It relates to a larger $$ figure than you might imagine.
  • They produce more lumen per watt than traditional lighting.
  • They can save 50-75% on energy savings while lighting the areas better and improving the quality of light.

COLOR RENDERING

LED’s have a clearer color rendition. That means things appear as they would during the noon hour of sunlight instead of colored by a Metal Halide (bluer in color) or High Pressure Sodium (more yellow and orange).

HEALTHY

LED in the workplaceThe light put out by LEDs is more pleasing to the eye and has been proven in government studies to increase production by 3% or 1 hour plus a week.
  • It has also been proven to combat SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. That’s because SSL mimics the light the sun gives off during the noon hour. During winter months this can greatly reduce the depression felt by people in winter. Up to 30% of people are affected by this in North America.

OTHER

  • Led lighting can be used in high humidity & cold areas. A definite sore spot for traditional lighting. High humidity causes problems for fluorescent lighting and requires expensive fixtures to keep the humidity out. LEDs can work in environments with up to 99% humidity.
  • They start up almost instantaneously, instead of having to warm up or cool down. Like most forms of traditional lighting. LEDs are cool to the touch. I have actually licked an LED tube that was running for 3 days straight. Not only was I not burned, the tube didn’t blow up in my face. I wouldn’t recommend trying that with a FL bulb or even a CFL for that matter.
