MASTERS THESIS – “Energy Efficient Logistics Parks”
The thesis overall focuses on the reduction of supply chain costs through the reduction of energy use and carbon emissions in the supply chain by implimenting energy efficient technology and renewable energy. Logistics parks are groupings of distribution centers in strategic locations in a country/region/world to aid in the distribution of goods from one place to another. Reducing operating costs in logistical nodes lowers the unit cost per item at its final destination. This gives the retailer a competitive advantage, increases their bottom line and ultimately follows consumer behavior in offering products with a smaller environmental impact. The paper covers the basics of carbon trading, energy efficient technology and renewable energy and their roles in producing positive cashflows for both the logistics park owner and the business/distribution center owner.
